    Cusco and Rainbow Mountain Itinerary

    Day 1 / Cusco - Nearby Ruins


    Arrival in Cusco, reception, and transfer to the selected hotel. Between 8:00 and 8:30 hrs. Pick up from your hotel to begin a visit to the four ruins surrounding Cusco: Sacsayhuaman (a large fortress located 5 km from the city), Qengo (a sacred amphitheater, center of worship to the god Puma, and where human sacrifices were made), Pucapucara (the "red fortress" due to the hue its rocks acquire at dusk), and Tambomachay (a temple for worshipping water). Return to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

    Day 2/Cusco/Sacred Valley of the Incas -

    Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, between 7:50 and 8:20 a.m., we will pick you up from the hotel for our visit to the Sacred Valley. During the tour, we will visit the town of Pisac, a picturesque colonial mestizo town. Mass is also celebrated in Quechua on Sundays. Along the way, we will visit the towns of Ccoya, Lamay, Calca, and Urubamba. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the town of Ollantaytambo, home to the Ollantaytambo archaeological park, a gigantic agricultural, administrative, social, religious, and military complex during the Tahuantinsuyu period. At the scheduled time, transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station to begin our journey to the town of Aguas Calientes. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

    Day 3/Aguas Calientes-Machu Picchu/Cusco.

    Breakfast at the hotel. At the scheduled time, we will head to the Puente Ruinas station, where we will board buses to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. The most famous example of Inca architecture, discovered in 1911, we will enjoy a guided tour of the citadel's main buildings, such as: El Mirador, Temple of the Three Windows, El Intihuatana, the Main Plaza, and more. At the end of this tour, we will take the bus back to the city of Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will depart by train to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

    Day 4/Cusco - Humantay Lagoon.-

    Our adventure to Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m.a.s.l.) begins with pickup from your hotel at 5:00 a.m., followed by a 4-hour trek to Soraypampa (3,850 m.a.s.l.). Here, we'll enjoy breakfast before ascending to the lagoon. We then begin our ascent across a plain with beautiful views for approximately 1.5 hours. If the sky is clear, we'll have the opportunity to appreciate the imposing Apus of Salkantay and Humantay from afar. The hike is considered easy to moderate, but all the effort will be rewarded with a magical view of the lagoon. There, we'll have plenty of time to take photos and make a brief offering to the Apus. The more adventurous may also swim in the lagoon, if they wish. We then begin our descent toward Soraypampa, where a delicious lunch awaits us. We will then take our return transportation to the imperial city of Cusco, arriving at approximately 6 p.m.

    Day 5/Cusco-Maras and Moray.

    Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, between 7:50 and 8:20, we will pick you up from your hotel for our visits: MARAS: Located west of Cusco at 3,300 meters above sea level. From there, you can see the Urubamba mountain range and the snowy peaks of "La Verónica" (5,682 meters above sea level) and "Chikón" (5,530 meters above sea level). Its important occupation began when the Cusco nobles of the Inka period were stripped of their palaces in Qosqo and forced to settle in other small towns like Maras. It has an adobe church, typical of village religious architecture. Inside, paintings from the Cusco School are kept.

    MORAY:

    Located approximately 7 km southwest of Maras, it is a unique archaeological site in the region. These are gigantic natural depressions or holes in the ground surface that were used to build terraces or agricultural terraces with their respective irrigation canals. It is a prototype of a greenhouse or biological experimental station, quite advanced for its time. It helped ancient Americans inherit 60% of the plant products they consume, and Andean humans consume 1,000 different varieties of potatoes, 150 varieties of corn, and many other products. In the afternoon, return to your hotel in Cusco. Free afternoon. Overnight in Cusco.

    Day 6/Cusco-Rainbow Mountains

    Very early in the morning, at approximately 4 a.m., we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our journey to the foothills of the Ausangate Mountains. Upon arrival, we will have breakfast and, after a brief meeting with our fellow passengers, we will begin our hike with a professional guide who will explain the different customs and mysticism of the Andean mountain range and the Quechua people who live there. At midday, we will have a short break for our boxed lunch. In the afternoon, we will return to our respective hotels. Overnight in Cusco.
